I've been looking at a 97 v70 and it's great, the only problem is it seems a little Smokey and smells a little like it's burning oil. Is this likely and is it a common problem. I also considered the Cat might of went, could this cause the smell? The body work is fine and everything seems to work fine in it, I didn't see it start from cold however and I'm just looking for a little advice. thanks guys

Not a great vid, was using the light. Already seen it in the day and it was a decent car uploaded so you can hear engine at start and see smoke at end.

Thanks

Is it a turbo? Common fault is a leak from the turbo oil return pipe which can spray oil under the car and all over the exhaust. The PCV system can block, check by getting the engine hot, pulling the dipstick out and looking for smoke.

All the volvo 5 cylinders like a little oil but nothing excessive. I'd wager its a blocked breather system and its being run on either cheap or the wrong grade of oil - unless its on monster mileage i.e. well over 200k I'd doubt it would be any thing like piston rings although I have known piston rings to seize up on them (again through using poor quality oil) causing piston slap and oil usage.
