I'm thinking about buying a couple of winter wheels, ( rims and tyres ), for my T5, but not sure of which ones will fit and be ok to use alongside the original 17" alloys that I will leave on the rear.
Can anyone help out as to which off set and size would be best to buy.

No, dont do it.

Buy 4, please.
Any particular reason for buying 4, they will only be on the car for a very short while, ( I hope ), and only used to get about locally, no long journeys etc.
Maybe it might be easier just to buy a couple of good winter tyres to go on the front, and then store them until they're needed again.

Because you create the potential for a very nasty grip imbalance.

Id rather run 4 summers and know i've got sod all grip, than be on a nasty combination of a potentially grippy front end and a very loose rear...... it doesnt take too much imagination to realise the rear-end might be overtaking the front end with out much provocation.

The other option is to buy a decent set of 4-season tyres from the likes of Nokian and keep them on all year round.

Should the worst happen, I (personally) wouldnt like to have the conversation with my insurers explaining Ive got 2 winters on the front and 2 summers on the rear.

The whole subject has been done to death in the GG section of the site, and there are indeed a (vocal) few who persist in advertising the fact that they 'drove with 2 winters and didnt die' so it must be a good idea. Videos available on YT will hopefully convince you otherwise.... smile
I get your point, and to some degree I actually agree with it, but why then, when you buy the likes of " snow socks" etc do you only buy 2.

What's insurance, lol. No seriously, I accept all what you are saying, and for the sake of safety I'll either replace all 4 or none at all.
But, back to my question regarding size of steel wheels that will fit my car, anyone know.

Should be:

5 x 108 pcd

63.4mm centre bore

std. offset is 52.5mm
Are you sure about that offset, I thought it was between 35-45.
Obviously that's just me doing a bit of googling.
