Hi all,

My car came with a fault of ABS Pump failed. Codes were all related with ABS brake sensor, and ABS pressure sensor. Volvo dealer wanted £800 new! I managed to find a used part online for £100.

I assume it will take a few days for a garage to fit replacement, which means labour will be sky high. I am considering to fit the pump myself.

Question...?

How easy is it to replace the pump?

I'm not sure about the newer models but the pump is usually right at the top of the engine bay and very easy to access. I should just be a case of undoing some hydraulic connections and an electrical plug. Then bleed the system as you'd have gotten some air in there which would throw a warning of some sort.

Providing the replacement is 100% compatible.

Update:

The car was in garage today for replacement used part. Part was fitted, but car did not crank up at all, no lights, no nothing.

What's the cause of that? Blown fuse, ECU reset?

Make sure its not the dry solder joints on the ABS ECU module - Extemely common fault on the earlier 850, S70, V70 and C70 and easily refurbished. Never known of an ABS pump to fail on one as they nearly always Bosch and nearly always bullet proof - The ECU playing up will bring up all sorts of code related naughtyness - it can also cause the speedometer to fail and the autobox (where applicable) to go bananas.
