Hi guys. I have just bought a T5 PH1 V70. Its got the older throttle cable operated 2.3 engine with the M4.4 ecu. I understand its an ECU out job to remap it.
Who would people suggest to take it to? Im based near Chester so as close as possible would be ideal. Im looking for a sub £200 map which should see around 270-280 with a bit of luck, im not out for maximum power and at the end of the day its a sub £1000 shed (I did only pay £230 for it with tax and test with it only needing a radiator). Im well aware 'you get what you pay for' etc regarding maps but its only going to be like a stage one tune.

Any help would be great, Mike.

HLM in bromsgrove, west midlands. Pay them £150 plus a surcharge, they send you a tuned ecu (based mainly on the Rica 304 map which is very good) you fit it and send them your old ecu for a refund. simples and you'll be very happy with it.

Brilliant. Many thanks will get on it! I take it the immobiliser module is separate to the main ecu. So it's just plug and play?

I think so, Give Hamish a call and he'll go through it all with you.

Please google HLM, rica, Hamish, Adam Webber and mcfknugget before parting with your cash. There are many threads on t5d5 aswell as on voc regarding their 'amazing' customer service.

I wondered how long it would be.

Just to clarify, Adam hasn't had anything to do with HLM for years, the "customer service" issue youre referring to happened years ago too.

I'm not advocating for the guy, nor have I had any dealings with him but old grudges seem to die hard around the forums and it's pretty boring tbh. No tuner has a 100% perfect record.

The fact remains that, for an off-the-shelf, known and proven map, posted on an exchange basis, where's the problem?

Dads S70R, went to HLM last year to get the rica map, no problems at all.
They also found a boost leak on it, because of a spilt pipe, they found it using a smoke machine thing.

The T5 he had before that, 7 years ago i think, also went to HLM that car went from 90k miles up to 180k miles, with the map on.

I would have no worries about using him for an off the shelf map, as that's what dads 2 cars had.

Dont worry Martin, I wont do a T*** on you as I've been on the receiving end of that abuse myself, and its just uncalled for.

I just wanted the OP to be aware of the other side of HLM, if he chooses to use them or if anyone else does, thats his/their prerogative, but at least go into it having done some research.

Fair enough, I can't stand the inter forum/inter tuner slagging that goes on, in reality, you only hear of the horror stories and the good work they do (whoever the tuner is) often goes unnoticed. I only picked HLM as I know the off the shelf stuff is proven and a good price. I imagine Don (Kalmar union) Russ (RT Mechanics) Shark, GRN, and many others do off the shelf maps and with some research, it won't be hard to find horror stories featuring all off them.

I hear T5D5 have developed their own set of maps, dunno how much they are tho.

Thats very true, but for me a mark of a good mechanic/garage is how they deal with issues/problems when they occur, unfortunately a couple of those garages in your list have been shown to be less than disreputable over the years.

T5D5 have indeed developed M4.3 and M4.4 maps. I have nothing to do with the maps, best to search for Tim Williams T5D5 on google as the search function on the forum is useless, do your research and you can then make your own mind up.
