I'm looking at getting a Volvo car - second hand - we're a family of 5 so we need lots of space, any suggestions on what models we should be considering?

What is your budget?

What do you typically use it for?

Thanks for tip martinrpeachey, I'll see what's available locally and arrange a test drive of a V70 model.

Mr Moony you asked what my budget is, haven't really thought about this as just wanting to get a feel for what these types of second hand cars are gonna set me back. It'd be a family trips, day to day usage and the odd trip up north to visit family.

I bought a 2004 V70 with full service history for £3.5K earlier this year.

Mine has done 94K miles.

Don't worry about mileage, the 5 cylinder volvo engine will do 250K miles if looked after.

Look for examples with good service history.

I've owned a few volvos so please drop me a PM if you need help.

Kind Regards
Brian

Highest V70 mileage on VPCUK currently stands at over 340K. that's a 2002 2.4 auto.

I test drove the V70 and liked it, however I also checked out the XC90 - does the same apply to mileage on this model as on V70? Its just there's so much space and we are a family of 5 so we could split the kids in the back, would make long journeys so much more bearable!

The AWD system and auto box can be troublesome on the XC90, later models ('07 onward) are better.
There's a 7 seat kit for the V70, a dealer option when new or you can get a 2nd hand one for £100-£150, takes 30 minutes to fit.

V70 a better bet than an XC90 - if you like the roughty toughty 4x4 stuff then the XC70 is better (and more reliable) bet than the XC90

The 740 is oldschool estate. Phased out as the 850 gained in popularity. Personally, I preferred the larger 900 series.

Great motors, refined, powerful, huge road presence BUT the auto box (made by GM) usually won't make 100K miles before it needs replacing.
