Anyone installed a towbar on an XC90?

This may or may not be helpful....
I just installed a towbar on an '04 (53 plate) V70. This already had a plug in the back that feeds towbar 12N and 12S sockets - or one of the newfangled multiplugs.
You can either get the proper plug and socket assembly from Volvo or splice your own in. No need for a relay.
Your XC90 may be similar.

Er no. If the socket is there its not "terrible advice"; there's nothing fancy in the wiring from the dedicated plug under the boot floor. It plugs straight in and wires run to the 12N/12S/13 pin socket. Nothing else. The car is obviously pre-equipped to have a towbar plus electrics installed.
The wires are even the correct colour.
Obviously your Volvo may vary. My advice relates to a 2004 V70 2.5 AWD. Our previous V70 which was a 2005 facelift didn't have rhis facility.
A web search should confirm what you have.
