New ignition barrel required??

2006 Volvo XC90 - went to start it today and the key wouldn't go past position I 
Had to call a recovery truck as I was at the park with my kids. Recovery guy removed the steering column cowling, two screws off the ignition switch and was then able to start the car using a screw driver to turn the switch. So now I've got the car at home parked in neutral (it's an Auto and I want to avoid going into park as that locks the lever again).
Anyone else had this, do I need a new barrel or is there a specialist who can rebuild it, and can Volvo supply a VIN/key specific barrel to avoid me having to swap key blades over etc. Would like to avoid having different keys for ignition and doors?
