ESP light stayed on after parked 3 months in garage...?
Discussion
I came back from holiday after 3 months, started her up and the esp light came on. Message say's anti skid control off!
I've been driving the car for 2 days thinking the light will go off, as the car has been untouched for 3 months. The esp light still stay's on, can't seem to think what the problem is
Car is Volvo S40 D5 - 2007 plate.
What's the solution to rectify this?

Check the front reluctor rings on the front CV joints. One may have rusted through and split which shuts the ABS down. Had this on two cars previously.
Quite common on all volvos - From my experience the ABS light will come on at speed (normally around 70mph)with this fault as the sensor struggles to take a reading from the knacked up ring as it starts to spin faster and the abs will cut in even when its not needed i.e. under normal braking conditionsBattery is perfectly fine. I did replace the N/S rear hub and sensor before I went on holiday. ABS seem's to kick in when i slam on my brakes. I will have a look at the cv joint/s ring tomorrow. My car will be on sale soon, so don't want to spend tons of money.
The wheels do spin when I put my foot down, I will have test it out again.
Would it help if I delete the code, or disconnect the battery?

It would reset the system, but once you moved the car the fault would just return if it is not repaired. Look carefully as the split does not need to be huge. also chech the hub bolts, it theses do not have the rubber insert to we're not torqued properly the have been known to slacken enough to allow the joint to move in the splines. This also gives a fault code.

Right, got back from the garage to find out it needs a new ABS pump control unit I was told the part is costly. I know ford and volvo share parts, so will the Ford ABS sensor/module control unit fit on my Volvo?
If it is this part - it can be fixed cheaply by resoldering. Have a search in http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/I'm having doubts now, as the ABS seem's to be working fine. I slammed on my brakes various times, and the system works perfectly fine. I think the garage is trying to play games with me as they charging me s**t loads. To overhaul the existing part, £170 to remove and send the part to another garage, labour £339 inc VAT, it will take 3 days in total. 2nd option, to buy a new part costing me £700 to £800 inc VAT. What the F**K! Do they think money grows on trees? or I'm a millionaire full of cash?!?!
Bunch of F'in W*****S!
I've booked in my car to another garage tomorrow, to see what actual problem is. What's ESP light got to do with ABS pump? Surely the ABS light or a message should've come up, instead of the traction light on message saying 'check anti-skid roll'!
