Hi all, first post on PH!

I'm currently looking for a big fast estate car, and I'll be honest, the Legacy gtb bh5 is top of my list having owned a couple in the past. However, while browing ebay the other day I stumbled across this 2005 ex police V70 T5, its very local to me, like 3 miles away. He is willing to do a deal on my current ex police dog van that I'm looking to sell, so that too is handy if I can't be bothered to sell it privately

My reason for posting here is to get advice on whether or not a 200,000 mile ex police car is even worth considering, or if it should be avoided like the plague at all costs?

Any general comments about v70 vs gtb's pros and cons would also be welcome, especially if you have owned/drove both, as I have had nothing to do with any volvo's

Cheers

Jonesy

Have a look on VPCUK and T5D5.
Loads of useful info.

Generally a good motor if its been looked after, ruinous moneypit if its been negelcted/abused so buy on condition rather than mileage.

User: MRP on VPCUK is the guy to speak to, he`s done loads to his explod V70 T5 and is a wealth of useful info. He`s on 200k miles too.

Me mind?

Always happy to steer people in the right direction.

I wouldn't touch an Ex-Plod VXR with a bargepole but the Swedes are a bargain smile

Having driven the Police cars in service, I wouldn't worry too much if direct from them. I would be concerned however, about who bought it after and how they looked after it. People seem to buy them because they are cheap and try to run them on a shoestring. Look at recent history.

Agree with the above.
My father in law bought mine from the police auctions with 123K on it @3 years old. He put 50K on it and gave it to us. He did oil and filter changes but was scared to do big stuff like suspension and tranny flush.
Since I got it, it's had new shocks, springs, clutch. DIM, leather interior, HIDs, LED interior lighting, full front powerflex conversion, boost gauge, BCS, new vac lines (twice), (takes a breath) Drop links, steering stops, disks, pads (plod spec), reverse park sensors, Vinyl wrapped the roof, tranny flush (twice), Steering wheel, (takes another breath) Modified P1 spoiler, 3" maf to turbo pipe by Tim Williams, engine bay customised, Simota carbon fiber intake, modified recirc valve, new petrol flap, new tailgate, new lower o/s rear light cluster, carbon wrapped interior trims, Lasers projecting the Volvo logo in the footwells (nice), 2 new wing mirrors, timing belt, uprated surround system with 12 speakers totaling 1180W and a new cigarette lighter in the back.

I think that's covered it all...

Total = £3250, or thereabouts.

She's now a 202800 mile ex-plod that drives perfectly and is a very nice place to be. wink

I should hope so after what you've changed smile

I think the pre-Ford V70/S60/80 are probably one of the few cars which can survive high mileage with just usual servicing. A Ford or Vauxhall would be on the floor at 200k and even a BMW 5 series I had a while ago didn't hold up as well as the 1998 V70 I had a few years ago, probably the best built car I've ever been in and that includes older Mercedes E and S class.

4x new tyres! thumbup

By "Rockstone" frown

i'm not that into tyres but I'd not be suprised if they are a load of ste.

When I got my V70 it cane with 2x new front tyres by "sunny", they were sodding lethal.

Anyway, it looks pretty smart in the pictures but feels to be 20% or so overpriced? Worth a look, risky though.

My last Audi came with a set from that bh from hell Poly Glas. They had a wee sign on the sidewall that read, "to be used on straight roads only".

Deadly!

Awww - fanks smile

I now have a 1997 starlet that we use as a daily hack as we do 20 miles a day in heavy traffic and the Volvo was just hemorrhaging money. It only gets used at weekends and for long trips. The rest of the time, it just sits outside the house sulking and growling at the starlet or passing corsas.

I forgot...

Coolant flush, brake flush, braded brake lines, new headlining, modified wastegate, LED sidelights, new top spring mounts, new p/s tank cap, new dipstick, prancing moose badges, custom grille badge, removed PTC heater nipple, refurbished alloys (x5), new gear stick + gaiter, new handbrake gaiter, A/C service and fitted mats smile

Think that's all of it now lol.
