Gearbox flare

Hi I've just phoned Volvo concerning an s60 auto for sale to find out about the cars lack of history .i was told the car was in 2 weeks ago regarding gearbox issues. A girl from the dealer told me they diagnosed and cleared a fault and she said something about a gearbox flare.the car does seem a little cheap which is a worry. What do people think
