S80 am I mad.

Been looking maybe getting an s80 diesel auto with around 200k + on it.
Am I being really stupid? Also how often does the Cambelt need changing.

Why not! The S80 seems pretty unloved. I went in one being used as a taxi with just over 200k on it and diesel and it seemed pretty good - got to be the comfiest taxi I've ever been in

Thats what I'm thinking. Trouble is the one I'm looking at the owner wants more than I think it's worth to be honest

I'd be a bit wary of the auto, but other than that I wouldn't expect any trouble with it. Always worth going for a manual with a high mileage car, and the 5 speed AW box in these is not known for it's longevity. I can't imagine that one is on it's original box.

How much is it on offer for? Not sure of the values myself but I'd say around a grand would be reasonable, considering it could well need another grand or two spending should things go very wrong! Still, a 3k budget for a comfey big (not too ancient) swede can't be too bad?

I bought my first 850 T5 for £409 and then had to spend £2,000 fixing it (which I wasn't too happy about) BUT after that it was fantastic and served me for 25,000 miles before I sold it. I've since bought 2 more 850's

It's an 06. Think he said its a 6 speed auto. I think he's expecting 2500 for it at least. I was thinking more like 1500. The wife won't drive a manual unfortunately . Does anymore if the 6 speed auto is any better. Then again he may have meant 5 forward gears and reverse are ok
