Thinking about buying a '09 plate v50 T5 manual for Mrs chj.

The official mpg figures look a bit optimistic, so could anyone give me an idea of what real world mpg we could expect?

Also, do these run on normal 95ron fuel?

Thanks.

I don't have a V50, I have an S40 (same engine and basic platform), but in my hands:

Running errands, short trips, etc. - 27-30mpg
Longer trips on mixed town and A/B roads - 30-34mpg
Motorway run - 32-37mpg

You have to be really trying to get up to 37 on the motorway though, more normal is to get around 33-34 if you're *ahem* using opportunities to make progress.

I'd expect the V50 to be similar to that, maybe a little worse due to the extra weight of the estate over the saloon.

And yes, they seem to take 95RON quite happily. Never had any problems with this or my previous turbo Volvo, although that said I usually stick Super in it.

Thank you. A bit better than what I thought it might be - hopefully pick it up on Sunday if things work out as planned.

I always stick v power in mine but mine is tuned with a few mods running 300 bhp 350 lbft + however my current long term average fuel economy is around 29 mpg even with hardly any motorway cruising and a lot of urban, on a track day its been down to 7.6 mpg but sit her at a genuine 70 mph in 6 th on a long run I can achieve over 40 mpg with ease which I think isn't bad if I can resist the urge to speed!

Quick update ... bought the car ...

First tank of fuel - mainly motorway cruising ... managed 420 miles from tank

Second tank of fuel - mainly B roads commuting ... managed 340 miles from tank.

Not bad at all really. Wife likes the car so much I've only driven it about 5 miles smile
