C70 conv and Merc CLK - similarities
Discussion
I understand that the Volvo C70 and the Merc CLK were platform sharers (with the peugeot, but they never did a cabriolet). How similar mechanically are they - ARE they platform sharers?!?
which is the better car(biased opinions welcome!)
WHat to look out for if I were to consider buying one?
Thanks

Clk 320 first gen and C70 T5 first gen owner here, not drop top though. As said one is FWD and the other is RWD, but they both handle about the same (T5 is a bit more "sporty" though), both are very nice, but neither is a sports car.
T5 is faster when rolling and 320 is faster from stand still, 320 has much better mpg, T5 feels much faster, both are elegant and mechanically quite reliable, 320 is much more load friendly (foldable backseat), 320 has much more optional extras and feels a more modern car, T5 has a much better sound system.
Watch out for rust and possible electronic issues on the Clk and oil leaks and ETM issues and front axle wear and tear on the C70, also the T5 eats front tyres.
Which I would go for? Flip a coin
ETA, never head they would be platform sharers.

which is the smoother more comfortable relaxing wafty ride?
which has bigger back seats/legroom, and which is easier (bigger gap) to climb though.. they are my burning issues... the rest like you say- toss a coin!
These are for first generation cars.which has bigger back seats/legroom, and which is easier (bigger gap) to climb though.. they are my burning issues... the rest like you say- toss a coin!
Comfortable and wafty, Clk
Rear roominess, about the same
Easy to get in back (this is a real pain in the C70 with electric memory seats), Clk (or C70 with manual seats)
