Turning off service light

Since I do the service on my c70 -98 myself, I would like to turn of the service light as well, but have read that it's done with a special ODB2 reader only or at a dealer?
Are there any android apps or suchlike that could be used with an ELM 327 Bluetooth ODB2 reader to turn it off?
Holding down the trip reset button and turning ignition on doesn't work.

Are you sure you're doing it right? I find it fiddly and usually take twoor three goes to get it right.
Proceed as follows to reset the service reminder indicator (SRI):
-Ignition position I
-Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
-Ignition position II
-The service reminder indicator (SRI) starts flashing when the reset button for the trip odometer has been pressed for 10 seconds
-Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 5 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded.
Note! If the trip meter reset button is not released within 5 seconds the indicator is not reset. However the indicator will stop flashing.

That's what I was afraid of, the -97 and -98 models need a specific reader to reset the light. But as it's a standard ODB2 port (or at least looks to be, and works with torque app) it should be the software used that is not standard.
Would it be possible to make as an app for android that can reset the light, or am I totally off?
The ones that do the trick go for >£100, and here in Sweden no one seems to have one for loan, strangely enough, home of Volvo and everything?

The factory Volvo tool (VCT2000), Vol-fcr, and any other reset tools all communicate via the obd port so - if you have the skills - I don't see why it isn't possible to emulate the service reset command with an app.
I don't have these skills unfortunately, but it would be cool to see someone achieve this.
I have a copy of vol-fcr that I can email you if you wish. It's an old copy and will require a serial connection on the computer and a vag-com compatible obd cable. Message me with your email address if you would like me to send it to you. It's about 1.5MB in zipped format.

I use VOL-FCR and a serial to OBDII interface, which works on my 850R and also on a friends V40. If you have VOL-FCR and get one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-OBDII-16-Pin-Male-t... that should do the trick. Bear in mind you'll need to use a computer with a serial port, not USB.

I was sent a copy of the VOL-FCR to have a tinker with, just to see if it would be possible to make an app out of it, fingers crossed. Tunku said:

I suppose you have to take the good with the bad, no ETM problems = other headaches. Now just as to spite me, it's started pissing oil, and plenty of it. Looks to be somewhere near the turbo, so that's my next weekend sorted then...
Hmmm... turbo oil return pipe? A little orange or green ring if I recall. Not too bad if you get the front up in the air and crawl under. Did it on my old T5 the other year, took about 3 hours I think! Mind you, I was also cleaning up the bottom of the engine while I was down there.

Haven't had the time to take a closer look yet, it's all covered in oil anyway so I need to wash the engine to see where it comes out. If it would be the return pipe, would the car still run normally? Fingers crossed for an app version of the VOL-FCR, it may take some time to do but hopefully will get done. I was thinking of a Bluetooth OBD2 sender, and then an app like Torque app. It should be possible.
Yes, my previous 850 T5 ran fine while dripping oil! Had to top it up every few days (was doing 500 miles a week) but oil leak stopped after I did the turbo return pipe. The oil seal was a few quid from Volvo and wasn't too much of a job to do. Also used some instant gasket when replacing which I think helped.

Thanks, I will lift it up and have a closer look tomorrow. It runs perfectly, only a slight smell of burnt oil when stopped at lights, when parked up warm it leaks quite badly, but when it cools down the leak seems to stop.Keep me posted re: VOL-FCR app, are you thinking of developing the app for apple or android?
It would be for android, I will have to set a friend of mine on the task, as I ran out of skills. Volvo has really made a mess out of a very easy job.
Sorry to disappoint, but after much tinkering and swearing I still can't get it to do what I want it to do. Only guess would be that VOL-FCR is made for XP only, and requires drivers or scripts from within XP to work.
Will have to see if I can find some helpful Volvo tech guy to shed some light on it.
