I recently bought a 61 plate V60 D3 and would be interested how close others with similar models are getting to the Volvo quoted economy figures. I have done 3000 miles of mixed driving and have averaged 45mpg and, as this is a way short of the quoted figures, I would be interested in other experiences.

I have a 12 plate V50 D2

Official figures are Urban 54.3, Combined 65.7, Extra Urban 74.3

I live in a rural location and make many long journeys, I'm averaging 52mpg (on the pump) and 54mpg on the in car computer. Quite a way short of 65.7mpg!!! I have seen a journey of 65mpg plus on the computer but you have to be driving like a saint. 70+mpg is just a pipe dream.

I just put it down to the ways cars are tested, and it seems that most manufacturers figures are quite a way off the real world figures.

Its interesting to note that when I bought a Saab 9-5 estate 2.3LPT back in 2001, fuel costs were about 12p a mile, and now 12 years later I'm still at 12p a mile with the Volvo!

Have a 61 plate C30 D3 and figures are way short on official numbers as is just about every new car these days - have a look at honest johns website.
But as a comparison I'm getting about 44 on short journeys which dropped to 40 over the cold weather. If your interested it takes about 10 or so miles in normal ambiant tempertures for the oil and transmission to approach running temps.
Had a little play yesterday and steady 70 on a 55 mile journey each way managed 56mpg according to the readout. Used to drive to Dover every fortnight and regularly managed 52mpg over 360 miles at 75 according to the satnav. Also found the trip computer was reading low, 52 on the computer was nearly 54 fill to fill.
All in all it does come close to the figures but only when the journey, weather and traffic conditions are perfect. Still love the car and most of all the 5 pot engine.

I have an 11 plate S60 D3 automatic, on a decent run I can get close to 50mpg on the computer, normal run around is 43mpg so full to full actual figures are 40- 45.
I like the car but the boot space is dismal.

I have an 11 plate D5, so not the most economical version. However to get near to Volvo's claimed figures I need a flat quiet stretch of motorway, the M74 is a good one, and then I need to drive like a granny. A constant 50mph gets me very near to official figures, but the second I touch the throttle it all goes to pot and I can't better 40mpg.
However the good news is that on a cross country trip, with reasonable overtaking speeds, the figures don't drop much below 40 either.

I recently had to travel 20 miles on dual carriageway which was subject to 50mph. Had just filled up and when I arrived the display said 92.7 mpg. The car is an 05 Saloon.

I travel 40+ miles commute and average genuine 60mpg in summer and about 55 in winter. The display reads about 5mpg too high but I do drive gently (boringly!). It’s acceleration that gives the bad figures as the car is not light.
