V50 2.0d Cold Start Problems

My 2006 V50 2.0d struggles with starting from cold. Once the whether is below about 2deg it seems to suffer and takes longer and longer to fire as the temp gets colder. I have changed the glow plugs which dont seem to have made much difference and also cleaned the throttle valve as recommneded by a forum post but again little difference has been seen. Any other suggestions?

I had that recently on my V50, turns out a faulty alternator killed the battery, so replaced both and it seems to have cured it.
