Hello All,

I bought my first Volvo, which also happens to be my first car yesterday. It's a 1998 V70 2.0L 10v and I'm very happily with it, well mostly.

First Problem:
Front left indicator lamp fell out today, the wiring is still conected and it still works. From what I could see in the dark it looks like it just needs new brackets (I will check further in the day light tomorrow) but if this is the case is it an easy D.I.Y job or will I need to take it to a garage?

Second Problem:
The engine started making a slight grinding/grating noise when accelerating. Now this has only just happened, it was fine yesterday and from Reading to Bristol tonight it was fine, right up until I got in to the city centre and I noticed it as I was pulling away from lights/junctions.

I have 3 months warrenty on the engine so if it is a big problem I'll get a garage to fix it under that, but if this is a common thing and can be fixed at home then I'd prefere that.

Any and all help is welcome, if there's anything else I need to watch out for owning this car I'm all ears.

Cheers,
George

1: will be easy, but you'll need to see in daylight to identify the problem.

2: Sure its the engine? Is it engine speed or road speed related? Lots of things cause grinding noises but if it is the engine then it is likely very bad news.

Ok thanks, I'll get a couple of pics of the light in my break and post them up.

As for the grinding noise, it was low speed, low revs. In my break I'll take it around the block and see if I can figure anything more out. Here's hoping it isn't the engine!

the indicators are common as muck - people break the locating tangs off them when removing them

Any more detail on the noise?

Sorry for such a late reply. Yeah the lights are easy to source, ended up getting them from PFV. As for the engine noise that seems to have stopped following me re-fitting the plastic intake pipe. Didn't think that that would be the cause but it hasn't made a sound since doing it. Here's hoping it stay that way!

Got my new indicator yesterday, tried fitting it today but it wont slot in. I'm positive I have the right part and I followed the Haynes manual. Anyone got any ideas?
