Has anyone carried out a T5 engine swap on a 740? Ive had a supercharged TVR Griffith which was close to 500bhp and now have a more practical Rangerover, but the family 740GL is nearing the end of its life, so I am planning on stripping it of everything apart from the essentials it needs for the track and fitting a roll age, then improving the handling and brakes and fitting the gorgeous sounding T5 from an 850, I know it's Ben done, but would like to see a finished conversion to get my head round what's involved and hopefully get some advice and usefull contacts, hope someone can help, thanks

It's quite common in Sweden. Have a look at Swedish websites like www.savarturbo.se , www.garaget.org and www.turboperformanceclub.com
Yes, they are in Swedish but using search the functions (or Google) you should be able to find some stuff. Google translate might help you out a bit. Don't be afraid to register and ask questions in English, "everybody" in Sweden have good English skills!

I don't know the exact details but I believe that most people use either the manual Volvo gearbox from 960 2.5 or modified BMW boxes (front end cut of and Volvo front end welded on). Adaptor plates are also available, costs £220-250. I think they usually use the 850 T5 engines but sometimes with another intake, possibly S60 (but that is likely to gain clearance to the brake booster on a LHD vehicle so might not be applicable on a RHD). The oil sump is usually shortened 960 and engine mounts as usually 960 as well.
Good luck!

960 would be much easier as they run the same engine mounts as the 850 and an easily adapted gearbox (remember the 850 gearbox is a front drive unit) the 960 runs a 6 cylinder version of the b5234t (the b6304) - They are all essentially the same modular engine in 4,5 and 6 cylinder varieties. The 740 and 940 models use the older B230 and b200 lumps which are completely different and would require more work to make fit -

Your best bet with a 740 would be a seriously tuned b230ft from either a 740 turbo intercooler or a 940 HPT - The b230 can be made to make 1000bhp with some serious money thrown at it
