When my dad unlocks his volvo v70 a pump starts sounding, initially we thought it was the washer pump but the sound is not the same, does anyone have any idea what it could be and what we can do to fix it.

Apparently its actually more like a fan and its coming from under the wing and when he locks the car it starts ticking. The car keeps saying it has an alarm system fault so maybe the two are related?

It's probably an alarm siren failure- very common.

The alarm siren lives under the offside wing and may well make odd noises if it's fecked.

In which case remove the fuse and see if it stops.

Exactly. Just live with it unless you're keen to be relieved of £150.

To replace the alarm on my S80 was just over £250, it comes as a unit apparantly so had tto, replace the whole bloody unit.

Same when the thermal cut out switch on the rad fan went, had to get a complete fan unit, fitted around £500
