Hello

I am struggling to change the headlamp bulb on my XC70. I can feel there is some sort of wire retaining device but cant figure out how to get it off. Anyone got any tips or an idiots guide? I'd feel a bit of a prat taking the car in for someone to fit a new bulb...

tks

They are an almighty pain on the S60/V70. Once achieved, next time is a doddle.

Imagine a U-shape spring wire. The wire is formed in such a way that it is hinged at the bottom and the tops of the U are actually hooks that fit in to reataining points. The mid point at each side between the U and hook at bottom is bridged and pushes/retains the bulb in place.

The knack is to push and squeeze inward the 2 hooks at the top and this will allow the wire to swing free on the hinge at the bottom. The bulb can now be extracted.

Refitting is easier.

A trick is to use a mirror to see behind the lamp, as you cannot see what is there without the aid of a mirror.

This post may be a little late, but my local volvo dealer will change the bulbs on these for £12. Given that Halfords charge £10 for the bulb alone, I think £2 is a small price to pay to avoid 30 minutes of swearing, frustration and scraped knuckles. Having watched them do it - unplug assorted cables, rip out airbox, insert hand into laughably small aperture, swear a bit, refit in reverse order, I'm still not tempted to save the £2.
