Hi guys,

Anyone got experience of mpg in the real world for a D2 V40? I'm tempted for the next company car, but as it's sub-1600cc business miles get reimbursed at a lower rate... just want to make sure I'm not going to loose money trolling up and down the motorway...!

Hi. I have the D2 in my V60. I get 48-49 mpg driving a mix of urban and motorways using a fairly heavy right foot (eg 80mph on motorways) and with the Drive button turned off to improve performance slightly. On a run, driven carefully, I can get 60mpg but it's not much fun!

Your V40 is a lighter car so expect slightly better figures.

Thanks for that. I've currently got a 2.0TDI A3 and get around the offical urban figure on a heavy-footed commute and the combined on a long run (with some 50mph average speed camera roadworks to help).

On the D2 V40 even the urban figure's >70mpg so I'm a bit sceptical until proved otherwise... that's a big number!!

Just to compare I get 53 from my 59 reg S40 DRIVe. Official combined is 72 mpg.

Thats 75% A road 25% dual carriageway.

No doubt with moe motorway driving it will do 60.

I've just taken delivery of my V40 D2 SE

Done 700 miles in a week and have averaged 58.8 mpg with a mix of motorway and around town according to the car.

Very impressed, miles better than the 2010 Seat Leon FR (2.0 TDI) it replaced.

Cheers all, went for the new A3 2.0TDI in the end (more power, more torque, more economy than I get at the moment, and more headroom than the V40 - I'm 6'5"!). Not as exciting inside though... maybe I'll be able to return to wafting around in a Volvo next time (which might be estate time :-D ).

at 6.5 you would struggle in the V40 ... best mate is same height and even with the seat on the floor his head skims the roof lining.
