Has anyone here experienced the dreaded Volvo Magneti Marelli Electronic Thottle Module failure?
It fails due to wear in the TPS contact points, which is idiotic considering there are contactless options when designing this sort of part.
I'm having mine refurbed by a bloke in London who knows these things, can't wait to see the improvement to the car.

Which idiot in Volvo decided to use an Italian electrical part in a Volvo anyway? Everyone knows that Italian electrics are crap, even the aficionado! Every other electrical part in a Volvo is Bosch or Mitsubishi, so to entrust the fly by wire throttle to an Italian company is tantamount to suicide.

Turns out the part is even more broke than the Polish chap can handle. I'm left with getting a part from the Volvo dealers for £370 odd plus £200 labour plus £60 odd for a software upgrade? Anyone know anyway to do it cheaper?

Alas no.

You could try phoning Volvo for some sort of goodwill but don't hold your breath......

For a replacement try both MRG, Volvo's peerless dealer in Chippenham, Wilts., and Braydon Motor Company, Downs Road, London E5, well founded and respected non franchise specialist.

Sometimes these components will respond to a thorough clean.....

Regards, Don.

PS. you might getter some other assistance at www.t5d5.org and www.folvoformums.org.uk

Cheers Don, I'm on the other forums. I'm afraid the part is well past the cleaning fix. I'd forgotten about Braydons and MRG is a new one on me. Thanks for the info.

An update - I ordered a part from ecutesting.com, part arrived in one day, and crucially, it was plug and play and had the Sacer fix.

Result !!!

Better add a total price, come to think of it!

£310.68

Fitted it myself in ten minutes - no charge
Software update to car - not needed
