V70 buying advice.
Discussion
I'm looking to buy a V70 - probably a '98 / '99 model. (has to be AUTO)
I have looked at a '99 V70 2.4 and a '99 V70 2.3 T5
Is there anything specific to these models I should be looking out for?
Mileage wise, the cars I'm looking at have done 100k miles +.
Are the auto boxes strong on these?
I see a thread about later models suffering from auto box failure - are the earlier models affected too?
TIA.

Classic shape models are pretty tough - if it's a model with a fly by wire throttle then make sure idles smoothly - camshaft reset valves stick bringing on the engine management light but is usually fixed with an oil change - doesn't effect the way the drive.
Rear brake calipers seize so check the condition of the rear discs - bluish colouring or corrosion on the surface indicate shagged calipers.
They eat front suspension bushes and ball joints so listen out for chattering or knocking from the front end - generally suspension parts are cheap and easy to fix
They often suffer uneven tyre wear if the suspension geometry is wrong so pay particular attention to the inner edges of the tyres front and rear.
Make sure the engine has clean, quality oil as they are prone to blocking up the breather systems - castrol magnatec will wreck the breather system filling it with carbon so be careful.
A lot of people on the Internet spout crap about bent conrods - this is bks - if the engine taps or knocks on start up but then clears it is caused by a failed o-ring on the strainer in the sump and is simple and cheap to fix.
A lot of people will go on about various problems that are simply not true so be wary.
They are generally very good and little goes wrong
