Hi all ive just purchased a 2002 52 plate s60 D5 auto.with only 66k and full history.its my first auto car and tonight when i took it out i noticed that in 1st gear, from a stationary start (car cold and just started) the car seemed a bit hesitsat to pull away.as though there was a small amount of slip. but once away it was fine. gear changes are really smooth and kick down is instant. but is this normal for an auto? or should i give it a bit more throttle? i was only feathering the throttle when i pulled away as i didnt want to rev the engine hard when cold.
am i worrying about nothing? cheers

Dip the fluid on the transmission dipstick - do it with engine running and engage through all the gears inc reverse before you dip it - may be low on fluid - auto gearboxes are effectively a fluid coupling so they will naturally slip all the time - if the fluid is deteriorated then it will slip more - it is a messy and pricey job to flush a box properly - many so called gearbox experts claim to flush them but don't so be careful

They will seem sluggish off the mark compared to a manual - its just a characteristic of the torque converter taking up the drive
