Hello one and all.
As a new member to PH i thought i would start this topic to see what any of you guys could advise more than anything.
I'm slowly modding my V50 T5 and so far i've got a K&N Typhoon air filter and a Jetex cat back exhaust system fitted and i have noticed a difference in power and sound but i'm wanting to unlock just a little bit more.Not being very mechanically minded i'm not really sure on what to do next so i want to try and get advise on what would benefit me more as i'm not a boy racer.I'm 34 years old.Some people recommend to do an ECU remap which i know are expensive but are worth it.HLM bromsgrove do a stainless steel downpipe and sports cat do you get the nice burble from this still keeping within the law and is there a noticable power increase?If any one is in my situation or know anyone who is modding there V50 T5 what steps did they take?
any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 2004 V50 T5 and have had my mods done in slightly different order to yourself but can vouch for HLM remaps. I started off with a standard car but within a month I have with a K&N panel filter and several autologic maps from a local dealer that were quick but had poor power delivery (I got a refund)after trying several maps and I went for an auto tech remap from HLM this took the power to (230 WHP)248 BHP and 420 NM. Next stage was a 3 inch Jetex down pipe and exhaust system from HLM along with a few tweeks to the map this took the power to (242 WHP) and 261 BHP! Next step was the ITG HLM induction kit which looks similar to the K&N Typoon, Focus RS Ecu box, HLM FMIC and another map to suit the car now has 299.6 BHP and 470 NM, I have no spoilers no T5 badge just a green drive badge on the back and she really flies. I bought the car Feb 2011 with 118k and have now done 145k and she runs a dream can highly reccomend HLM for making a nippy car very quick!

Not sure if the old mods still apply, but the usual route with the 850 is:

- RICA Remap;

- Replacement turbo, an 18 or 19 - not sure what the V50 has;

- Replacement injectors - "green giants" are the best; and

- A Quaife or Gripper diff.

I have had a few older T5s and these are a slightly different beast they are fitted with a smaller KKK turbo which kicks in much lower down and a higher compression engine than the old t5s. These t5s also share the chassis engine and gearbox with the mk 2 focus st which obviously means most things that can be done to an st can be done to c30 s40 v50 or mk2 c70. The engine I believe has similar limits to the original t5 but can handle more low down torque as standard I believe also its smaller and can be much more nimble than an 850 but not as comfortable as an s60 v70 but a whole more driver focused. The other benefits are cheaper to buy than a focus st second hand after several fast volvos of old an xjr v8 and a modified s4 b5 I'm happy with mine yes there's faster cars out there but few offer the real world practicality bang for buck and stealth factor.
