S60 D5 Cycle carrier.

Afternoon all,

I've been to halfords and i've been told that i can only use a rear fit cycle carrier if i have something to strap it to under the bumper and on the chassis.

Has anyone else got a carrier on the rear? I'd like to avoid a roof carrier if at all possible and don't have a tow ball.

Nonsense.
I used a boot mount carrier on S60 for nearly 3 years with no problems, up to 3 bikes on it most times. The straps hooked over the front and back edges of the boot lid which meant that the boot could be opened with the carrier still attached (bikes removed of course). I've still got the carrier but can't for the life of me remember the make or model.

Hmm, interesting. The halfords person didn't seem to think hooking it to the boot lid alone was enough. He said it should secure to the bumper but i never thought at the time that stops me using the boot.

The straps that secure the carrier are under a fair bit of tension. Personally I would want them secured to something not made of plastic...
