Start Stop with Powershift Box
Discussion
Is there a particular technique for managing start/stop with an auto box? The reason I ask is that it is far too intrusive on my new V60 with a Powershift gearbox. I had start/stop on my previous C30 with a manual box and found it quite easy to use in that if I didn't want the engine to cut out (e.g. stopping for one or two cars at a roundabout) I would simply keep my foot on the clutch which prevented the start/stop activating.
The problem with the Powershift box is that the only criteria for activating the start/stop is that the car must be stationary with the footbrake applied. I am finding that the start/stop activates at every junction which is a particular issue if I then want to pull away smartly to take advantage of a small gap in traffic. There is a small time lag from the engine starting again to the power steering operating which can be quite dangerous in heavy traffic. Probably the most annoying feature though is when I want to reverse parallel park, as soon as I stop just ahead of the parking space the engine cuts out before I can select reverse. Selecting reverse and taking my foot off the brake starts the engine but again there is a short time lag in the power steering being available which is annoying at parking speeds.
It is becoming so infuriating now that I just switch the start/stop off before starting a journey which defeats the object slightly. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Regards, Tony

as far as I'm concerned, and rather sadly, you've answered your own question completely correctly........... 8< snip 8<

The system is imvho an abomination. Equally the same view on the stop/start on VAG DSG boxes; the example given of a short stop, yet looking to go quickly into a suitable space on a busy fast flowing roundabout is a particularly dangerous situation.
