After a bit of advice from any V50 2.4 petrol owners, I am hoping to go and look at a V50 over the weekend with the 2.4 petrol engine and am wondering what the real world MPG figure is

I am hoping that as its only around 170bhp it won't be too thirsty, but then again I could be totally wrong

I've had a 2004 model for 5 years now, only two things failed, top suspension mount, cheap job, probably pot holes, and condensor, which was a stone hole, but not so cheap, so both caused by damage rather than wear.
Still looks brand new.

As for consumption, on short journeys, like a mile or two, it's around 18mpg, 25-30mpg on a roads, and 34mpg at 70mph.
I was a bit dissapointed as I was downsizing from a 2.9 s80, but the consumption is about the same in both.
(Mine is the auto like most 2.4's)

Really happy with it though, great engine and car. I think the t5 is similar mpg in real world due to extra torque. And would be my preference, but not many good ones around when I purchased.

(other car is jaguar XKR)

Good luck.

As above, I had a 2.4 auto. Those economy figures are pretty much spot on what I got (had mine from new on a 56 plate, for about a year).

I really liked the car, it was nippy enough day to day, was nice to drive, well equipped and sounded lovely. The only real negative was the economy, or lack of...especially as the T5 was about the same economy figures and a fair bit more rapid.

I should say though, I've heard about people complaining about the lack of space and poor storage space in the V50 and also the average economy of the 2.4 petrol. However, I knew exactly what I was getting and really liked the car...I only changed because I got a great deal on a V70, and needed the extra space and economy on long runs.

Thanks for your replies, the car I am looking at is a manual, I am happy if I'll be able to achieve around 33mpg on runs as I don't too much round town driving

Hoping to go and see it over the weekend, if it is as nice as it seems in the advert I think it will soon be on my drive

The petrol 2.4 does 30 mpg whatever car it is fitted in. It may vary from 34 mpg to 28 mpg, but you wil get 30 mpg on average.

Yes, a very nice cruiser on the motorway. Since I picked it up I've averaged 30.4mpg according to the OBC, but assume I am probably getting less.....plus now starting to enjoy the 5cyl more towards the top of the rev range, so I foresee a drop in the mpg
