I've had a 2000 V70 T5 now for 5 years. Ever since I've had it the tyres scrub the inner wheel arch on full lock. I've replaced the lock stops to no avail and the geometry checked several times. My MOT man says it's not a problem they all do it and Volvo deny there's any problem. The car is fitted with Dunlop sport maxxs size 225/45/17 as per owners manual. Anyone had similar problems or know of tyres that don't do this? It doesn't seem to damage the tyres but is seriously annoying and I'm about to change the front tyres so now is the time to sort it.

I would put up with the noise , the lock on them is bad enough as it is .

Really? My '99 V70 T5 has a better lock than my 2010 Focus RS, I actually find it quite nimble tbh.

Is it a phase 1 or 2 V70?

If a phase 1, you can fit c70 (blue) lockstops to the wishbones and that will restrict the lock enough to stop the rubbing.

If a phase 2, there are different lock stops according to the tyre size - I believe the black ones are to suit 225/45 tyres. Also, the phase 2 can be fitted with metal rub plates at the contact point in the wheel arch in order to protect the liner/body. I understand wheel rubbing is a recognised issue on the p2 cars.

In either case fitting larger lockstops will restrict the turning circle.

FWIW I have both P1 and P2 cars, both fitted with the lockstops described, and the restricted lock is only a minor PITA occasionally.

The phase 2 2000- cars have a turning circle only slightly better than the QE2

It will be worth checking the plates for corrosion as eventually the rubbing causes a sharp edge on the plate which it turn cuts the inside of the tyre, found this out to my cost on a set of 235/35 R18's
