Has anyone ever needed to replace the rear heated seat pads on a Volvo 850 Estate?! If so, any advice on how best to dismantle the rear seat covers so as not to damage them? smile

Well, for anyone who's interested I managed to get the heated rear seat pads installed without any major problems and everything's back together again. So, have heated rear seats installed and connected to the wiring under the rear seats.

Also have the wiring in place for the rear switches and this connects to a yellow connector next to the black and grey connectors near the OBDII in central console.

However, I have another question regarding the wiring from the console to the relay / fusebox! A peek under the dashboard on the drivers side revealed another yellow connector with different coloured wires (including what looks like a large red power supply wire?), however can anyone confirm whether this is actually part of the heated rear seat circuit or something else that I should leave alone?

Next question, I think I've located the correct relay space under the dashboard - currently has a relay in place for the fog lights marked with the number 213 and with a green coloured socket in the fusebox. I have read that the heated rear seat relay should be marked with the number 214 (part number is 352 3201 ??).

Does 214 replace 213, or does it go somewhere else? Looks like there is a blank next to 213 (which looks correct according to Volvo specifications) but I'm a little unsure how best to proceed.

Does anyone here have any familiarity with Volvo 850 wiring or perhaps done what I'm doing in retro-fitting heated rear seats?

I have a 15A fuse in the fusebox correctly fitted in position 10, so that part of the circuit should be ok.

In relation to the first question (the yellow connector), I think this is just a spare switched power supply.

I know that it's used to feed the auto dimming rear view mirror kit that was fitted to the 850 & s/v/c70 (I have fitted this to my S70R).

Ahh thanks. Just assumed it was something to do with the heated rear seats due to the colour of the connector! Daft I know.

Wonder if the relay marked 214 replaces the 213 then. Hopefully I'm close to getting this working.

hmmm seems there may be two different fuse boxes for the 850, depending on whether you have heated rear seats of not!!!!

Where as my car's fuse box is more like this design:

With the green plug on the right hand side for relay '213' and a blank next to it.

???

Ok, seems that the lower fuse box is different in LHD and RHD! What I thought was a blank was in fact the heated rear seat relay for RHD cars.

Is posting to yourself on here sad? Am I the only person to have fitted heated rear seats to my 850?!

Quite possibly...

The V70 T5 I had until recently appeared to have heated rear seats, but they didn't work. If you'd got your finger out and written all this last year then maybe I'd have discovered some new enthusiasm to take it all to bits!
