Xc90 sat nav - no voice instructions?

Help - just picked up a 04 xc90 d5 SE and having problems with the sat nav.
Programmed a destination today and entered "start guidance". Yellow triangles come up on the route but there is no voice instructions when you approach a junction. Also if you divert from the original route it doesn't recalculate.
I've been through the settings but can't see any options that would rectify this
Any ideas please?

Isn't there a volume control under system settings?

The more modern ones have a guidance section but older ones it's definitely under system settings. I bet the volume is set to zero.

Nope - set to 3 - one of the 1st things i checked!

Ah OK, fair enough, sorry, then no idea.

Been a few times I've adjusted the volume to whatever, then forgot to press enter before backing out to the menu to find I've not changed the setting.
