engine emission service required
Discussion
Why is my 'engine emission service required' message coming up with an orange warning exclamation mark every three engine starts?
There are no OBDII codes and the engine works fine. I've checked things like the oil level, listend for air leaks in the intake system. I've taken off the throttle body for a good clean, which did improve the response quite a bit, it was quite gunked up with tarry oil deposits. Had to do the throttle relearn thing(switch on ignition, engine not running, press slowly on throttle to full throttle and repeat) because it was idling high after the clean. Now idling perfectly. Not even a drop with the air con switching in and out.
A bit of history. I had a duff abs sensor which disabled the abs. I ignored it. Then the red brake warning light came on. I ignored it. Then the engine check light came on. I ignored it. Then the engine emission service required light came on. I capitulated and replaced the duff left hand front sensor. Al the lights went out except the engine emission service required message. Will it eventually go away? Or is the car getting its own back?

Could find the clutch master cylinder is leaking brake fluid on to the sensor,so the new one will fail/give intermittent readings.
Upgraded ECM software was introduced that improved many things including reduced sensitivity of the sensor and less chance of the fault code/engine management light coming on.
HTH.

That would be all I need! Upgraded ECM software was introduced that improved many things including reduced sensitivity of the sensor and less chance of the fault code/engine management light coming on.

Replaced the CPS today. Fixed the problem, but old one has brake fluid on it as you divined. Bloody tiny leak, must be more of a slight seep. I reckon I'll bodge a drip cover for the new one as repairing the clutch master cylinder looks a pain. There is no discernible loss of fluid in the reservoir, but I'll be keeping an eye on things as part of the weekly checks.Upgraded ECM software was introduced that improved many things including reduced sensitivity of the sensor and less chance of the fault code/engine management light coming on.

Does anyone know what exactly the CPS does on a V70 that has no cruise control, no ignition lock out or anything else I can think of? It's a 2001 P2 V70 140 hp Torslanda B5244S2
