1998 volvo v70 awd

Hi all, yesterday i went to look at a 98 v70 awd, 2.4 with manual box, well specced etc, car itself is low miles, fsh and looked very clean and tidy, i do not know alot about these cars, are there any common issues with these cars? Or any other pointers or tips about them would be a help before i buy, it did drive nicely and i was pleasantly surprised with how well it went for a big heavy car.

Make sure the AWD system is working as it should.

From what I have read it only works when needed, ie slippery, ice, etc, and not all the time, whats the best way to check this?

Propshafts - my fathers ate the joints and the mountings.
You can't (or at least couldn't then - up to about 2007) get the parts separately = complete prop each time!

Was chatting to the service dept in the main agents today and he said that the V70 AWD is the most problematic and costly to run and only the mad or brave buy them!

Mmm think I may have to give this one a miss then, plus just caught wind of a potential cheap bike so car budget would have to drop slightly!
