Hi guys, I am the proud (not really) owner of a 2001 V70 2.4 140 (115k commuting banger).
I enjoy the car as I feel invincible driving to work, how ever it scares the crap out of me when ever I try and over take tractors and wild life.
I would like to keep the car rather than going down the turbo route.
As far as I am aware the 140 and 170 have identical engines and the only difference between the two is that the 140 has a de-tuned engine and a long geared gearbox.
Is there anybody that can recommend a cheap chip tuner to lift the power up to 170?
I am in the Essex area.
Thank you for your suggestions.

Waste of money, if you want more power, get a turbo version.

To make a 30bhp difference, then its not just mapping, id guess head, cams etc.

Or if you want to pass everything, get a v70 t5. biggrin

You obviously have not driven a 140 2.4, I think 30-40 bhp will be a huge gain compared it now.
I dont want a turbo v70, the chassis is crap and the last thing it needs is a lot of torque through the front wheels!

The remap just seemed like a cheap way of liberating what the engine can produce reliably.

Thanks anyway

Rica do the upgrade you asked for, but its £450.

http://www.rica-uk.com/viewcar.aspx?vehicle=190

If you go to the dealer page on the site, it will show you who locally does it.

No i haven't driven a 2.4, all the ones i have had were the T5 version.
I have a C70 T5 at the moment, with a Rica 310 map. biggrin

Sorry for going off topic. What is the mpg and general driving experience like with the 310 upgrade? Is yours manual or auto?

Mine is an auto that averages 25 on a good day, 33-37 on a long run, very quick once on the roll but a tad slow from zero.

ETA
I used to have a 850 140 auto and a v70 170 manual, generally I would say that there is not that much difference in oomph, only at higher speeds the 30 extra hp meant anything, mpg was slightly worse on the auto.

Mines a manual, i get 24mpg, but 2 things affect that, 1) i have no self control biggrin 2) my commute is into town. frown

My dad has an auto S70R that has the rica map, off the line i don't think it gains anything over it standard, its once you get rolling that the benefit will be felt (overtaking especially).
He gets closer to 28mpg, because he has self control and it doesn't do much town work.

On a run we both can get into the mid\high 30's.

Anything more or specific you want to know, just ask away. smile

Thanks, once I have convinced my better half that we won't die in a ball of fire if I tune the beast, I will come back and ask plenty more, I'm sure. smile

might be worth investigating whether a salvage ECU from a 170bhp car will fit - if they are the same unit with a different map then it should be a case of plug and play
