Volvo S40 problems..

Hoping someone can help me on behalf of a friend whose car is misbehaving.

Said car is a Volvo S40 1.6 TDi, manual on a 56 plate.

He says the car has started to be generally missing and pulling back at about 3000rpm or under heavy throttle. it then goes into limp home mode, but will reset on turning the ignition off and on.

My searches are giving the lambda sensor or the fuel pump as most likely causes.

Just wondering if anyone can help further?

First thoughts are a partially blocked fuel/air filter.

Recommend the fault code to be read,one should be stored if its gone into limp home.
