volvo c70 t5 any known problems?

Read up on the information available on the ETM (Electronic Throttle Module) as when that goes wrong it can cost you a few hundred to fix, the automatic gearboxes on the 2000 cars are not the best and you are in the region of transition from phase one to phase two which can make ordering parts "fun" - Mike
I have been looking at these too for exactly that budget, and from what I can gather they are pretty bulletproof
PVC breather system needs doing on some, and a full history is ideal. Also the autoboxes sap power from the engine, a guy on here said he knew of an 850 T5 that had been modified and it had a 48% loss in power from the flywheel to the wheels thanks to the auto

ive been looking at these too, ETM is a known issue but only costs a few hundred to sort out. I test drove 3 of them 2 years ago but ended up with a saab instead. Now i am hankering to one of these again or a Merc S Class for 2 grand. I think its probably better to get a manual as if an autobox breaks, it costs over a grand to fix.
edt to add- the s60 is a great car too, you can pick up a 2002 model S60 t5 for 2 grand. I had a S60 t5 years ago when it was brand new and sold it 3 years later with 100,000 miles on the clock, the turbo was great, i remember doing 152mph on a private test track of course 2 hours before i sold it, the car just was amazinggly rapid

Had considered these as well as a cheap but characterful runabout, espesh the convertible for some summer fun, had an 850 T-5R before which was pretty good. I'd seek out a manual for a bit more involvement, check the rear main seal for oil leaks too. Cheap part but a labour intensive fix.
Mines a 2000 C70 T5.
Check for wandering on the test drive, as the lower arm bushes fail, its well documented.
Etm look for a yellow sticker, that tells you its had a later etm plus software update.
Dont worry about high mileage, my s70 had 170,000 miles when i got rid of that.
The stuff about autos is crap, mine is a manual, Dads is an auto, there isnt anything between them, go try one for yourself.
Most tuners say, the auto is good enough for a chipped engine, but beyond that, not so.
You wont get much more than 22mpg, so keep that in mind.
Parts are expensive, but as things don't need changing very often it works out fine.
Pattern parts don't last very long, do a search for scantech, to see what i mean, i try to get oem volvo when i can.

Ouch. I'm another one who's been looking, are they really that bad on fuel? What about a motorway cruise @ 70mph? Was hoping I'd hit 35mpg on a run driving sensibly. Also been looking at S60 T5s, they seem less characterful but perhaps a bit newer/more practical, perhaps better/more efficient in terms of engine? Official combined economy is much better.
Any big issues on the S60 T5?
