New to the Volvo fold....
Discussion
Morning all,
Having had a few noisy and hard ridden cars I am now about to pick up a Volvo C70 2.3 T5, so thought id share some pics and if anyone has any advice please let me know. Car is in very good condition other than the usual few scratches but no dings or anything, has had 2 previous owners and covered 91k miles and is completely standard. Any upgrade opinions welcomed.
Better quality photos will be posted when i get the car tomorrow night as these were taken on my phone at the garage.
Regards
Matt

Headlights are quite cheap - Its a common problem on these and V70's
but is a great negotiation tool - knock off at least £100 or get them to replace them (make sure they are genuine Volvo Hella items)
Spec looks spot on - gorgeous wheels, full leather rather than the bobble-prone alcantara, dolby prologic and a manual box rather than a power sapping auto - nice!
Common problem areas - Check the doors don't leak, they are very heavy, pillarless and can drop slightly causing leaking around the windows - ditto opening rear windows.
Rear calipers are very prone to seizing on C70's especially if they've been sat up a while (say on a forecourt)
ETM (fly-by-wire) throttles can play up but a decent specialist who knows what they are doing can clean them out and sort them. (It might not have one - dependant on age)
Make sure the clutch is good and that there are no problems with the dual mass flywheel - The flywheel for the just part without fitting is £500 - ditto the catalyser so make sure it doesn't rattle from cold or once the car has warmed up.
Breathers or PCV (as geeks like to call them) block on the T5 engines - a sure sign it has been run on poor quality oil - cheap and easy fix
Make sure it has 2 keys AND the alarm fobs - They are really quite expensive to replace and are a Volvo main dealer only job as require coding that only they can do. - You're looking at over £150 per fob and around £80 per key
They are pretty bullet proof buy all accounts - find a decent specialist and they are trouble free motoring
As for mods? well aren;t they fast enough? Chipping is the easiest option for power gains. Decent tyres make a big difference to road holding. Avoid induction kits as they just draw in loads of hot air and cause running issues. You can de-cat them but they do become noisier and smoke a little when cold
We have a customer who brings his 850R to us for care and after we rebuilt the head for him and gasflowed it and with a chip, a de-cat and nothing else it is producing 312bhp at the flywheel on the rolling road with it losing 48%(!!!!) through the auto gearbox - Hence why auto's are simply not worth it if you want performance

C70 crystal lights look waaay better than those 'projector' lights imo.
Get onto t5d5.org and have a look around, there is plenty of info there
There are other forums too. What are you wanting from the car, power and handling? Progressive power and a nicely balanced car all around? There are plenty of mods to make it a lovely car that will surprise a few people whilst keeping it your main car (if it is that).
I will post more info' when i'm not in a rush

Remaps, although are good bang for the buck, just stretch the tolerances of the engine etc. I'd be more inclined to do headwork As for mods? well aren;t they fast enough? I don't get this whole, 'sucking in hot air' lark. I used too, but as another member mentioned, drift cars have no issue with hot air, and they're going sideways! I've never seen them creating running issues either.
Decating is fun though
