Hi Folks.
Coming to this with a bit more information, and a bit more experience, and a bit more trouble with the various V50 / S40 Ford Focus' over the last couple of years.
One thing that I forgot to mention is that these cars (inc the Focus) like to throw throttle body codes, and diesel limp modes due to corrosion in the instrument cluster, or the body control unit. (Don't blame me, I'm the messenger).
On a few occasions, we have removed the 2 control units, and cleaned the pins, especially the very small fines ones. Usually, connecting / disconnecting several times helps, plus a bit of contact cleaner, and this issue will often go away for a year or more, and maybe longer.
The issue is the throttle pedal position is communicated via the CAN system, and corroded pins in the cluster or BCM do not enable the correct signal to get through, and therefore it goes belly up.
BTW, I'm not sure a 2005 S40 has a DPF, so maybe that's a red herring.
