I was just wondering if there where any new ECU's on th emarket, we have gotten used to seeing, emerald, autronic, MBE and Motec etc, these seemed to have been around for years. Is there any new technology on the market or is Motec still top of the heap

MegaSquirt 3 is out very very soon, if you want lots and lots of extras (8 EGTs, seq fuel and spark on a V8) as well as lots and lots of other extra's that can be bolted on using CAN expansion then this will tick all the right boxes. Thats got to be the very latest smile

My cars biggest issue is with the electrics, probably not helped by them being in a mess around the battery. This summer I was going to move the fuseboard to the cubby hole behind the seat and relocate the battery to the boot. In the process I hoped I might find some parts of the loom are not being used.

Having read a few threads on this, it was suggested that a move to one of these different ECUs would greatly reduce the loom and possibly remove the need for the fuseboard.

Is that right, or do I need to relocate everything and then consider an ECU?

Thanks.

If your going to move everything and you want to go aftermarket ECU then Id do it all in one go, as then all you need to do is throw the Lucas loom away and rewire it with the aftermarket loom. There will be issues to overcome, but it is the better option long term,

Phil and Charlie have it summed up. I really like the look of the syvecs, but I can't justify the cost. (Maybe after the next engine is built and I find out I need all the nice interesting features it offers...)

I considered the M600 from Motec for my application, but when all the desired boxes were ticked the basic cost went up exponentially. I settled on a Kiwi equivalent that doesn't add ££££'s every box ticked.... in fact there are no boxes to tick as every feature comes as standard. Motec IMHO are riding off the back of their.... well deserved performance reputation, but the competition I believe, has caught up with them. RG it would seem are getting good results from Omex ECU's however, I highly recommed the New Zealand made LINK G4 Extreme the price was half that of the M600 and it has working superbly in my car.

If anyone is interested I have a short term used Emerald K3 going very cheap.

Why does everyone want to throw away the much superior and advanced 14cux and AFM? Apparently it can't cope with big power? I'm still running it in my supercharged griff with over 400lbs ft and well over 400bhp. Save your money unless your a focused racer!

Because it is a closed system that only a few people can chip...
Because it only has a tiny lickle brain... based on a processor that was designed in the 1970s when 0.5 MIPS was all you could hope for...
Because it is a fuelling only system that has no support for mapped ignition and relies on mechanical weights to move to change the ignition mapping...
Because it has limited diagnostics and facilities that a modern system has...
It doesn't support modern sensors such as manifold pressure mapping which is really good for S/C systems
It has no upgrade path when you want real power...

I could go on...

My old Chimaera 500 made 368 bhp/393 ftlbs (traditionally tuned) without a blower on a proper mapped ecu, I wish I had a before and after figure to show. The power is not the whole story though, its the drivability of the car far nice delivery from the aftermarket ECU, night and day different

With a blower setup it is even more critical to get control of the ignition, otherwise you will compramise off boost for on boost.

Out of interest, how much did you pay for the modified AFM and a rolling road setup for the 14CUX?

Because it has had it's day .. time to move on if you do not have a standard set-up.
