I know a couple of you have done it but every one I've seen was a carb engine. Found a engine/tranny combo locally for $600 but it is out of a 95 mustang so I know it'll be a injected engine. Is it possible to go with an injected engine in there space wise? I'd prefer an injected engine and realize it'll be more wiring issues etc. but I'm just wondering if there is a reason why I've only seen carbed wedges.

Keep in mind that the intake manifold for the '95 is the low profile version and will be easier to fit than, say, a '90 (Fox).

Best of luck,

Remember that with all TVRs, the bodies are made of fibreglass and it is fairly easy to change your hood/bonnet to fit any engine. The biggest problem I think would be fitting an engine block to the current frame with minimum mods that you are willing to do. We have a supercharged 2500M and that is fun to drive and not a big modification but gets the most usage. So one thing to look at is to see what is the easiest way to get to the power level that you want with minimal work. We also have a 79 Taimar that the importer John Wadman from Toronto Canada converted to a 302 from the Essex engine. More HP and more expensive but also more fun even after we put an automatic into it for the Spousal Unit to drive. Then we have my 78 Taimar that John converted to a 302 from new and we have stroked it to a 347. If I want to have a fun and enjoyable drive I take my daughter's 2500M out and I have a ball. If I want to be a passenger then it is my Spousal Unit's Taimar that gets used. If I want lots of attention from the boys in blue and some almost heart stopping experiences then it is the stroker that gets the use. So the big question that you have to ask yourself is what do YOU really want from your car and what must be done to it at the moment to get you there. Spending the extra money and doing the extra work to get that extra HP just sometimes isn't worth it but you might have a very fast car. Decisions/decisions/decisions....Have fun with whatever route you take.

When I say minimum mods or minimal work etc. I DON'T mean to cut corners. Keep your head on your shoulders and do what is needed to get to where you want to be.

Hi Ben,
I have done the 5.0 Ford convertion into a 1984 280i and I did use a carb. One of the things that I wanted to do was use the modern F.I., but when I started to concider the project, I thought that I might have to pull the body and fuel tank so that I could mount a hi press fuel pump in the bottom of the tank that would be compatable with the Ford fuel injection . I had an aluminum intake and a couple of carbs and figured that would be a simpler solution and it allowed me to bypass this issue and get into the meat of the convertion ( would it fit ). Once I determined that it would fit I started looking at the interphase of the car and engine and discovered that there are many external hi pressure pumps that would have worked fine and been just as easy. It was too late. I had already moved beyond that point and thrown out the F.I. hardess and given the accessories away, including the Ford tank mounted hi press pump that originally clouded my perception.
It will work and it will made a killer package. Please write me if you have any questions so that you don't repeat the issues that I already stumbled into. (LKeeeler@Hotmail.com) As was mentioned in the previous comments, this is no longer a nice little Sunday drive and you should start this project with that in mind.
Good Luck ! !
Allan

Thanks for everyones help!

Bought the package tonight. Seller says it should be out of the car by monday. Of course I'll be about a year off on getting it into the car as I do plan on rebuilding everything first. Only issue with the package is that 1st doesn't like to hold but as the seller says it was a junkyard wreck set up and he thinks the fork is bent. A call to a friend who knows the t-5 saying the tranny doesn't like 1st netted a... "I'll bet it is a bent shifter fork" response immediately before I mentioned where it came from. Regardless I plan a complete rebuild. Yes 302wedge I'll be in contact regarding the bits and pieces I need. Also your recommendations on a oil pan. I did send an email to Tr7andtvr at british car forums regarding his planned write up but still haven't heard back. I'm having a mechanic friend help with the conversion who just so happens to have a brother-in-law from the Pittsburgh area who did the same conversion.

Christmas present arrived early for the TVR. The seller had it yanked in record time as he needed money and the weather looks quite nasty (ice and rain for the next 3 days). 600+- of iron and aluminum sitting on a pallet at work! Have a very merry Christmas everyone!
