Im starting the build on my new RV8, Ive been running a JE blocked 3.9 without much aggro for years, Im now going 4.6 X bolted engine, Im also playing about with the internals by swapping the 4.6 rods for 4.0 rods which are slightly longer giving me a better rod/stroke ratio,
Now for the question,--- are there any strength/reliability problems with the X bolt rods, bearing in mind, the engine will be seeing 7k and possibly 250hp of gas too. I do know of people running standard parts beyond this, are they just lucky or are the rods good factory pieces????

why no just get decent rods to start up and not have the worry?
i take it you mean 250shot of nitros ontop of the 250bhp you should already get from the lump?

Sorry yes Im hoping for 250 on top of what comes out of the build, which hopefully will give 335-340 hp + the 250gas so 590ish hp, A friend has managed to run nearly 600 hp thru a stock 4.6 other than Omega pistons and a cam, obviously with plenty of gas too

I have been scouring the net for what I want, and again SBC rods may sort of fit the bill,@6.125, but it means geting the crank ground to take 2.10 bearings, the little end bushed down to the size I need, and a 0.010" skim off the side of each rod, but its now moving away from being a simple cheap build,

Cos they're £600 a set yikes...lol

Would be worth giving V8Developments or John Eales a call and see what they can offer...I know my H beams rods weren't that expensive.

Fair comment but sometimes in life you pays for what you get..

In the past I have bought components from various suppliers .. and it all ended badly.

I prefered to buy it all from one place - that way it's going to work as designed.
