Has anyone conveted a otter system to a ECU controlled system, and fitted a temp sender where the otter switch was.

most otters are 22x1.5 and most temp senders are 12x1.5 (well the emerald ones are)

I've looked every where and cant seem to find any in that size configuration.

I may just have to make my own.

Leigh I've got an M22x1.5 threaded bung - I got it from a supplier of hydraulic parts - its a common size in hydraulics apparently. It cost bugger all. If you want it PM me your address and I'll post it to you.
If you want a pic first let me know.

Are you sure your otter is a 22mm thread? Mine is considerably larger than that (as fitted into the swirl pot). I also obtained a 22mm hydraulic bung but that was too small by a long way. Maybe rad mounted otters are smaller?

If anyone knows the larger size for sure, I'd be grateful to learn it (didn't bother pulling it when I realised the mismatch)

I have 2 Ali rad's One RADTEC Griff 500 Rad, one Ali Cosworth Rad, and a Griff swirlpot. and they all take the 22 x 1.5mm thread Otter, the nut is a lot bigger 26mm spanner I think, maybe your thinking of the nut / spanner size not the thread size.

May be right, as I say I didn't pull the switch but the impression I had was the bung would be way too small. Will look again though.

I converted the fans to be ECU controlled a couple of years ago. I used the temp sender in the inlet manifold and just used a bung in place of the otter switch. (You could of course just leave the otter switch in place with nothing connected to it)

I've not had a problem with this configuration yet.

I'm going to be running a data logger and digital dash, so wanted to compare the Engine and Rad Temps.
So wanted to use both.

Also ideally you want to run the fans from the RAD temp as they may vary due to the thermostat.

Ideally, yes the rad fans should run only when the rad is hot. But I'm lazy, so I opted for the easy route... smile It's fail-safe, so the worst that can happen is cooling the rad too much and a small spike in logged temperature before the stat opens.

I run the ECU, digital dash, data logger all from the same set of sensors, so would be interested in knowing if you learn anything from monitoring rad temperature - I've run out of inputs on my ECU now.

I've got 24 inputs on the Dash and logger, and going to try and put as many sensors on the car I can, also then I'll have backup sensors, so know if its a sensor problem or a problem with the car.

will let you know what I find.
