looking into the viability of dropping a 4.2 Audi v8 into a T350 .engine and gearbox onto chassis ,has anybody gone this route yet or any another engine ideas.?

ie how much is a full speed six rebuild compared to a complete engine swap.

The main problem with engine transplants in TVR's is that isn't that much room, which is why the LS1-7 conversions are gaining favour, as the width over the head of a modern 4 cam V8 means most units don't stand an earthly chance of squeezing between the chassis rails.

For the LS1 swap it seems about 10-12K to do the swap, using new components

Seems too high?

LS1 crate lump about 4K
Rework the T5 box to cope with the power and new bellhousing 600 quid
Or TK600 box and new prop instead 1200 quid
Aftermarket ECU + wiring to run it all 1500 quid
engine mounts and sundries 500 quid
New exhaust manifolds 1200 quid

leaving 3 K for labour @ 25 quid/ hour = 120 hours which probably won't be enough

Now if you can find some 2nd hand parts and do all the work yourself then this price will come down

But I think it'll still end up costing about 6K in parts alone

Best of luck

Have you thought about putting the AJP V8 in?To be hones,i would have thought that nothing would be as cheap to do properly,as a S6 re-build though.I seem to recall someone sizing an AJP8 up in a T350 and it would work.Would still be very much 100% TVR then as wellcloud9

Hows the build going Mike?

I'm tempted to follow down your path I have to say, if it wasn't for the loss of the bent 8 note

When do you anticipate turning a wheel under cerbera power?

i think the audi units are pretty compact for a 4cam engine. would be an intresting combination but somwhat lacking in power to the LS engines out there.

The build is almost stagnant at the moment Mattfrown.Joo has had a little bit to do on the cosmetic side of the induction and thats about it at the mo.We've been waiting a while to take the car to a different exhaust maker, for a different set of manifolds and exhaust system to be made all over again! We cant get it in there until 10th December, then it will take a couple of weeks,so it realistically wont be back with Joo to do anything until the new year. Then theres just a little alteration to the coolant run, working around the new exhaust downpipe, and it should be a runnersmile.
I know what you mean about the exhaust note, the RV8 is hard to beat for sure,it will be a great lossyes. To compensate for this i just keep reminding myself of what those other flat plane crank V8's sound like when there going down the Mulsanne at Le Mansearscloud9

You having a giraffe..?

The flat plane crank AJP V8 sounds awesome in a Cerb... with a set of custom pipes from manifold down (and I do hope a linked decat!) in a system shorter than a Cerb's it's going to sound like the plates of hell being split.

Loss of the RV8 sound, phooey... rolleyes

I used to like the sound of my chim with cherry bombs in the silencers, but I agree with Podie, AJP, little or no silencing, does make an apocalyptic sound! Here are a few youtube vids of mine with straight through pipes:

Speed eight has put a SBC into a Tuscan.
And that has exactly what bearing to this?

Think People have checked this and the chassis rails and the wided DOHC head of the Audi do not really make it do-able.

It's called a helping some who asked a question.

IIRC this post was originally posted in the speed 6 forum asking about transplants, I pointed the OP to this forum and picked out one thread that I thought (as well as others) as a very informative thread, about an engine transplant. I was then asked to move the thread over here.

So what are you trying to imply by your usual negative crass comment! rolleyes

That no sane person would stick a 50 year old iron block in their car (when there is a new all alloy version around for the same price).

Do you really think people with SP^'s have no understanding about other engines and / or are aware that this can be done or the Major mods area is here?!
