LS1 heads upgrade
Discussion
I've decided i'm going to upgrade the heads on the beasty, i've gone for Dart 225cc heads with 62cc combustion chambers( my original heads are 68cc.), they have slightly bigger bigger valves, as well as a bespoke port casting, so i have a set of flowed LS1 heads going spare if anyone fancies a cheap upgrade? I will get her on the rollers soon after its up and running to see what its done!

i am just in the prossess of bidding on some LS2 heads 243 castings.
if i win these heads i shall be getting them ported and flowed, i will also have the car dyno,d i will let you know the results.
You sure that's right? 243 castings are ls6/late ls1 iirc so on an ls2 will raise compression. You'll have to use an ls2 head gasket if using an ls2 block. What block have you?if i win these heads i shall be getting them ported and flowed, i will also have the car dyno,d i will let you know the results.
Hey Brumie have you sold those flowed heads yet?
Its just idle curiosity but I am considering going a different way to getting the engine rather than a drop out kit> was just thinking of your heads + FAST intake on a 4" stroked 4.1" MID sleeved bottom end , was just the result of thinking that changing the heads would be easier than changing the whole engine not that the combination would be slow in anyway ...

Heads have been sold, some good cam/head combo's in the States at the mo if you shop around a bit, its the ancilleries that are the pain to get though, thats where the pulouts score, its the stuff like valve covers, coils, sump etc that can soon add up.Its just idle curiosity but I am considering going a different way to getting the engine rather than a drop out kit> was just thinking of your heads + FAST intake on a 4" stroked 4.1" MID sleeved bottom end , was just the result of thinking that changing the heads would be easier than changing the whole engine not that the combination would be slow in anyway ...
Oh ok...
I have been thinking that making the bottom end good and having a simple top end would be the way to go so that I would only have to change the heads if I wanted to (much like yourself) but there is just so much choice out there!
I must admit that the best way does seem to be the drop out kit with ancillaries but minus transmission, the thing I was considerring is that the newer GM heads are going to be based on the l92 and so need a bore bigger than 4" for valve clearances, so by the time I get to a point where I would might want to upgrade my setup I would bet that even the aftermarket heads like AFRs would have similar bore requirements, so I was considering future proofing
I guess it would also possible to sleeve a drop out kit...
Just a question though you guys mentioned "pick-a-part", now I have been looking but I don't think been I have found them yet, is it this one but there are no engines here so is there another place? Trawling through ebay I have seen alternative places like schram-auto-parts and fparts who sell engines and have lots of feedback, but I guess they would still be somewhat an unknown quantity.
