Well at last the Merlins are available .. but looking at the figures and they dont quote cfm figures for the heads - they look pretty comparable with a set of big valve heads..

So if you have a big valve head - which most TVR's have : then unless your heads are scrap for some reason then there not a big reason to change.

One problem with Wildcat is ...

The wait.

Question is are you going to be using the car on the track ?, is it normally going to be used on the road ??, I like the idea of the wildcat but I still want driveablity. Not sure even with the likes of the stealth cam that they would work, any ideas anyone >>????

I seem to remember there is some bloke with a +8 Morgan who has them fitted to his car and he drives into London every day with it. I have a friend who has just bought a set of thoses Merlin heads, don't think he has them fitted yet, so don't know the results yet.

Hi Nigel
No not him, he was selling a set of TVR 500 recently, I guess the reason for the change is he is power junkie! he is going to build a 4.8 with throttle bodies.

It did mention that the exhaust ports were in a higher position on the Merlin heads (Wildcat's too..)

So it's likely that exhaust manifolds would need to be converted to fit...

Any alternative castings would need to be coupled with a very good bottom-end (steels rods/crank & forged pisons etc) to realise their potential, most of which will be at higher revs. So don't expect an LS7 basher by putting Wildcats or Merlins on a standard TVR 5.0litre.
