Sounds very similar to the way mine failed.

The worst part of this whole episode???

2 Porsches went past whilst me and Ash-man decided what to dohehe

So it probably looked like we were both broke down.
Jumped in Ash-mans Griff, went home for the Jeep, by the time we got back it was darkyes

Ash, has never towed before, and the rope was to short. 12 miles at night with just the hazards to iluminate my wayyikes And no servo.

Bit pissed off really, as the weather was bloody great today, and I spent most of it in the garage fault findingrolleyes

Have you got one?
I have one here ,although I arent sure of its worth. Although I did only buy it in October......

Ok all well and good, but is anyone aware of a way of testing the amp itself?

I think you just have done it. If you want to prove whether or not it works you could stick on a dizzy and show the output going up and down, or plug in a separate pickup, or something that simulates a pickup, but those electrical tests you've done already seem to be showing the electronics are fried so there doesn't seem much point.

PS I hope you bought a spare to stick in the boot.
