Supercharged TVR now on demo
TVR Power shows off 275bhp Chimaera
TVR Power has built a demo car to show off the capabilities of its supercharger add-on to 4.0-litre Rover V8-powered TVRs, and said that it's taking bookings.
According to the company, the SC400 demo car, to showcases the capabilities of its uniquely designed, £4,500 supercharger modification, which offers a boost for a standard engine up to 275bhp and 280ft-lb of torque -- TVR spec for this engine was nominally 240bhp but usually over-stated the reality.
TVR Power boss Dom Trickett said: "If you would like to turn your 4.0 into a tarmac monster then give us quick phone call and we can discuss your requirements and maybe even a demonstration run."

But £4500 plus VAT
i'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks that
a lot of the cost is probably the Supercharger itself. I'm hoping they're using Rotrex units, opposed to the woefully inefficient Eaton blowers found in Merc's and Mini's. It costs £4000+ to supercharge a Saxo, so I don't see the price as being unreasonable.
Plus the whine noise you get from a supercharger sounds wicked - like a jet engine!

All our HP figures are at the rear wheels.
I hope it is at the wheels, as a standard 4.0HC is "quoted" at 275BHP
I'm sure the HC models aren't £5300 (£4500+VAT) more expensive to buy than a standard 4.0
But a HC only really makes a little more power than a 4.0. Plus these are 'at the wheels' figures. Whereas TVR's 240 hp was 'at the flywheel'.
I think its a good price. Gives the 4.0L more gogo juice than most 5.0L models without the pains of swapping engines & lower fuel economy.

Amazingly cheap isn't it?

Great minds eh

Dom, are you planning on doing a kit for a 4.5?
I see lot's of upgrades for 4.0 and 5.0 but nothing much for us in the middle.

Fundamentally, the late 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 blocks are the same are they not? Just with increasingly larger pistons, valves etc as t the capacity goes up?
A supercharger works on a pulleys system so surely the layout of the alternator etc is the same on all the engines, so would the 4.0 conversion not work for all 3 models, just with a different map or something?
Please forgive my ignorance in advance.......

Saxos aside i can get pretty much the same hardware in the states for the 302 for $1600 yes 1600 dollars!
i've had this discussion before and i realise there are development costs involved, but IMO its just too expensive! plus this is the basic kit too, i mean whats the 4.5/5.0 one gonna cost? at the rate the second hand tvr prices are going it'll be more that a complete car
considering how long its took i was expecting the costs to be closer to 3k, i would have signed on the dotted line myself. i now think a speed6 car would be a better option and take the 5-6k risk on a potential autocraft rebuild...

Hmm, but if you like the way a V8 drives and sounds, then the Speed 6 isn't a viable alternative. I can understand your point about spending £5k on potentially a car that can be had for £10k but then if you're worried about money you wouldn't buy and own a TVR in the first place. 300+ lbs ft and 270/80 at the wheels would be pant-wettingly good fun, plus you'd finally be able to embarass the countless numbers of Impreza's on the road that would normally wipe the floor with a 4 litre Chim.

Why The FK would you want to supercharge a Saxo, now that would be a waste of your hard earned cash.
