Looking at various gearboxes for my LS cerb, someone suggested to me a T45 gearbox as it is the same shape as the original is this correct?

All the "T" gearboxes seem to be Tremec, so advise trying to find it on..

And there it is... (never known of it before).

If you are changing box though, I'd tend to go with the flow, ie keep your T5 and see if you kill it. My Rover box handles my 320lb/ft OK which must be a fair bit more than what its rated for too. The TKO600 is the best option from everything I've seen though, for example it has a 2.87 1st ratio where the T45 has 3.37 - meaning that with such a monster engine (lower revving than the original Cerb engine), you could have very low first. My Rover box annoys me since its a similar ratio to the T45.

I've had my T5 in for about six months now and not destroyed it yet.

Jon, is the TKO the same in terms of gearlever distance from bellhousing, and did you adapt the std gearbox mount to fit? Its just that i dont have my gearbox (TKO 600) from the US yet and would like to start on installation. Cheers Paul.

If you use the t56 bellhousing and adaptor plate (well you would I presume!), and have the engine as hard back as you can then the stick will be no way near the original whole. They all come with the shifter in the back most position - you then need to order the kit that puts it in the second position back (from the front) of the box (mind this is on Chim not cerb - but presum all the lengthening in Cerb is behind the garbox area - but you will likley have to check. At least you do away with all that remote linkage stuff and it is almost in the centre of car (just space it off 1" - 1.5" to the right to get std lever (I used this) in the right place.
