Yes there is a remote linkage kit to bring the Lever forward.

I have one spare as I was going to use it on the AJPSprintV8 project.

Email me for more detail's.

As far back as the Wedge TVR had this issue: they simply sawed the gearlever in two near the bottom and welded a 3" length of flat mild steel to it to move the lever forward (and right IIRC)...

Hi Phil, I have a similar issue with my T56 and I found three options (there may be others - this is just what I found):

1. use the TVR mechanism as offered above. You'll probably have to modify it to get the distance right for your setup and depending on how much room you have between the trans and the tunnel cross member you may need to do some cutting and welding to give it operating clearance. PHer v8sag did this and had it working fine on his Chim with T56 - there's a photo of it on a previous thread here IIRC.

2. put a kink in the shift. the longer the kink the more it skews the shift movement and I suspect 4" is too much to be comfortable. A rip shifter which moves the center of rotation up thereby reducing the length of the throw may help.

3. Mcleod Industries in the US make a variety of shifters for the T56, T5, TKO and others that are offset in different directions forward/back and left or right. They also make a ripshifter kit which can mount either in the existing shift pivot point or in the case of a T56 directly over the inspection plate which is several inches forward of the original shift. This is the option I've chosen and have on order a shifter that locates the shifter 3.1" back and 1" right from the inspection cover plate. Their website isn't brilliant so I suggest you call them and ask for the MD Red Roberts who I found very helpful.

Just for clarification, your using the rover gearbox not the T5 ?

On mine i've got the JE Bell housing and a T5 box and whilst a little further back than when coupled to a ajp I find it fine ( and i've got short legs and a tall body - should have been italian i think hehe)

Way back when i was playing with putting 3.5 v8's in kit cars I came across someone who modified the selector part of the rover box to move it forward I'll see if i can dig out the info, but i've moved twice since then !!!

The LT77 generally ahd two shifts fitted; one is the 'long' one as fitted to SD1, TVRs etc(and is, I presume, what you already have), the other is a simple casting that puts the stick more or less directly onto the selector stub that sticks out the rear of the box (Landies and Sherpa, IIRC).
I don't know if this would also fit the R380 though...

Think there was a third remote as found on jaguars which put the stick well forward. Maybe ie on the box itself. The sherpa iron casting is very tall and agricultural, I doubt that would be used on a tvr. Oh, a fourth version was a shortened tail section as used on tr8's (1" shorter iirc) but tvr won't have used them, it was a quality triumph part and expensive

Discussing this the other day with someone - so it would appear the chim / griffs engines / transmissions ar ethis amout further back in the chassis relatively speaking? Doe seem that way to me - mine not though about it to much. But back of my engine is approx where rover on was and with tko I had to have the location kit to move it forward at least that much!!!
