Over the winter i fancy pepping up the performance a tad, i am leaning towards turboing the 4.6 i already have in, i know it will need lower comp pistons and all that, i have emerald electronics landing this week, so mapping should be alot easier. On the other hand i know of an LS lump at the right money. I do love the way that turbos give that seat snapping surge, answers with a bit of first hand knowledge would be appreciated!!

Thank you Graham, I'll take my bow now

BW, if the engines's in a 400 se then you won't get an ls1 in there. Even in a chimeara it's an expensive conversion and you'll need a new gearbox. Your cheapest quickest option is as you hinted at, to low comp the 4.6. This way you'll get lsx power and be able to retain all the ancilliaries and gearbox. I may be able to help you with manifold/turbo conversion parts in a short while.

Its a Chimaera these days, but when i first joined up it was an SE!( Cant be bothered to change name.) I know of an LS (2004) motor for around a grand with no ancilleries, an older 5 speed box will be 3-400 quid, As i believe the 6 speed wont fit looking at the LS in my mates Mazda. He has stroked his out to 6.3 and makes around the 530bhp mark. Back to the turbo route, is one big one or two smaller ones the way to go? One would obviously be easier, looking at it putting a turbo in place of the tea earn looks favourable?

You know Wayne and Craig A single turbo up front is simplest and I've just done a hybrid for that which Jools will test on the S when he's got time. It will be low boost. Two units will be better, one on each header but the costs will be greater as I need to cast new headers.

The 5 speed TKO 600 is the optimum TVR / LS box, as the fat torque curve of the engines make up for not having 6 speeds, plus a T56 is a heavier gearbox anyway. The function of the 6th gear seems to be an economy gear for Vette's anyway in relation to the "gas guzzler" regs as using it the 7 litre Vette can cruise at 30 mpg.

2004 LS engine for 1k If that's a LS6 then bargain an understatement !

I would not touch an LS6 for 1k - that is just not right - bound to be an LS1 (6's really hold there value).

The LSswap is huge amount to take on - if you have the 4.6 (cross-bolted) I'd turbo that - Mike should be able to help you out.

Mike do you have an LS sump plug (LS2 sump) - mine is mangled and going to have to muller it off - some fool done it up to tight!

Waste of time be luck to get 345bhp.

Go for it with the blown 4.6. LS6 swap is big money unless you have that to through at it.
And alot more involved that sticking blower on and installed engine - gboxex, looms - it is endless!

CHANCY! Bloody 'ell bloke, really got the TVR bug now eh? {it's MAC, R1, GSXR etc] I saw Craig at Wythall last week, he told me about the Chimaera. Keep us posted on what you choose. I'm playing with 'NOS' at moment and have thought about supercharging if funds permit. Good luck. Mac.

NOS - is just for possing and going fast over short stretching in a straight line - pointless.

But I'm sure he did it because he wanted to. Not to always come on forums constantly seeking approval and praise.

HMMmmm, 'going fast in a straight line is pointless' is it? Thank you Jellison for your articulate and predictable input. Should throw engine away, blah, install new one blah. hic/scratch record stuck, hic/scratch record stuck.
Yup did 'NOS' cus I wanted to, my money, my choice. Paul, Still trying to solve overfuelling at top end but last time on dyno had 290 bhp at 5400 revs' and 323ft/lb torque at 3800 revs at wheels. Will have to pop over and see an' have a beer.
